Achtergrondinformatie

Met de aankondiging van het album This Is Us, maakten de Backstreet Boys ook bekend dat zij de laatste maanden van 2009 en heel 2010 gingen touren. Deze tour begon in Europa in de herfst van 2009 en eindigde in Zuid-Amerika in de lente van 2011.

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough zei dat de band, na bijna 20 jaar in de muziekindustrie, volwassener geworden is en dat dit zeker terug te zien en te horen zal zijn op hun nieuwe album en op het podium tijdens de This Is Us Tour.
Ter promotie van de tour hebben de Boys verschillende optredens gedaan in de Verenigde Staten, Japan, Spanje en Zwitserland.

Sommige shows werden gecancelled omdat Brian Littrell de Mexicaanse griep opliep.

Tijdens deze tour werd de Backstreet Boys fan cruise aangekondigd.
De heren hebben ook aan boord van SS Backstreet een show gedaan.

Technische aspecten

Het optreden en de showelementen

Iedere show van de This Is Us Tour trapt af met de hitsingle Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), waarmee het publiek direct in de stemming komt om vervolgens een heel repertoire aan hits mee te zingen gedurende het hele optreden dat ongeveer 90 minuten duurt.
De This Is Us Tour heeft als ondertitel A Night At The Movies.
De Boys hebben voor deze tour dan ook alle vier een stuk van een film nagespeeld. Zo verschijnt Howie in een stuk uit The Fast And The Furious, AJ in Fight Club, Brian in Enchanted en Nick verschijnt in The Matrix. De video’s worden op een scherm boven het podium getoond, tijdens het verwisselen van outfits.
Tijdens de shows worden de heren vergezeld door vier danseressen.
De show eindigt met een encore van de eerste single van het album This Is Us, genaamd Straight Through My Heart.

Het podium

Het podium bestaat uit twee lagen die verbonden zijn door twee trappen aan weerszijden van het bovenste plateau.
Onder de bovenste laag zit een dj “verstopt” die tijdens de show ook zijn steentje bijdraagt.

Extra informatie

Op 16 juni 2010 kwam de tour DVD uit van de This Is Us show die opgenomen is op 18 februari 2010 in de Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.
De titel van de DVD is Backstreet Boys: This Is Us Japan Tour 2010.
Er zijn twee verschillende edities van deze DVD verschenen.
De Special Edition bestaat uit drie DVD’s. Naast het concert bevat die editie een soundcheck, “behind the scenes”-materiaal en een interview.
